A home that makes sure we never forget........

What does your home mean to you? No matter if you have lived in the property for 10 years or 70, those four walls hold countless memories. As estate agents, we love finding out about each property that we have the pleasure to represent; this could be your favourite spot, the property’s history, or the fascinating people who have entered its doors. Each home is unique, and earlier this year our Aberdare branch came across one that we should never forget.

Kelly Rayner, one of our sales negotiators in Aberdare, takes up the story. “Earlier this year we sold 20 Cardiff Road, Aberaman, it seems quite poignant, as we have just celebrated Remembrance Day.

The property held a plaque for Edwin Greening, which was installed in 2014. A Rhondda Cynon Taff council statement issued at the time of the installation stated that Edwin Greening was born in 1910. He became a member of the International Brigades, who volunteered to fight in the Spanish Civil War. He left his home here at 20 Cardiff Road in August 1937 to fight for the republican cause against fascism. He returned in December 1938 having fought and witnessed great hardship, bravery, and tragic loss during that time. After World War II he trained as a teacher and went to work in Warwickshire, returning to Aberdare in 1956 to teach at Penywaun Junior School, before retiring in 1975.”

How many heroes live amongst us? They may not have bravely fought in a battle, but they could have touched other people’s lives in so many other ways.

Does your home have a story to tell? We would love to hear it.
