The ultra violet way to add colour to your home this year

For those who love to dabble in home interiors, you may already know that a key trend for this year is the colour ultra violet.  Every year, the interiors world eagerly awaits the much anticipated announcement of the Pantone Colour Institute’s ‘Colour of the Year’.  In December it was officially declared that the Colour of the Year for 2018 is the vivid purple shade known as ‘ultra violet’.

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute, stated: “The Pantone Colour of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”

Inspired by galaxies and exploration, ultra violet “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”  In the summer months it will be seen in vibrant accessories and floral prints, whereas in the winter we’ll see it in rich velvets.  We’ve found a beautiful selection of interiors to give you inspiration on how to incorporate this dramatic colour in your home.

Vases are a great way of introducing colour to a room.  This beautiful and stylish vase made from mouthblown glass we know will add a touch of class to any room in which it is displayed.  Designed to echo the soft folds of pleated fabric, it’s made with heather glass and features subtle flared contours.

There is something about spring that makes you think of woodland animals, new lambs in the field and bunnies playing in hedgerows.  Which is why we couldn’t resist this wooden hare clock with metal hands which pop against the bright coloured background and the contrast with the hare line drawing by artist Jan Morley from the Animal Ink collection.

We have many fans of soft furnishings at Bidmead Cook, which is why this wonderful cushion caught our eye.  Based on an original abstract fluid painting by Louise Mead, it’s a great way to add a splash of colour into your home.
