Up close and personal.. in Ebbw Vale

As we continue our tour of the Bidmead teams we head to the border of the Brecon Beacons National Park to the town of Ebbw Vale. Known for its industrial past and long sporting history, our branch here is run by a powerful team always eager to help people move.

Name: Jeanne Fry-Thomas

Occupation: Director and Manager of the Ebbw Vale office (when I'm not being an assistant to Ms Brenda Jones)

Specialist Subject: Property in Ebbw Vale

What do you love most about Ebbw Vale? The history. It has played such an important role in making our little country, Wales, known all over the world and has produced the wonderful characters we are privileged to meet every day during our work.

What got you into property?  I was a civil servant and wanted a complete change, loved houses and had just built one; I saw an ad in the local paper for a trainee negotiator and applied. I took a massive drop in salary but loved it and never looked back. I had a wonderful boss, who was a surveyor and encouraged me to enroll at Reading University's Estate Management Faculty and get qualified.

What is the advantage of using Bidmead Cook?  The wonderfully committed staff, who are always professional, knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make things happen for people. People really appreciate it; the cards, flowers and chocolate we get are a testament to the fact that we get it right.

What’s your favorite property TV programme?  Well, I could say ‘Homes under the Hammer’, as I've been on it almost as many times as the presenters, but probably Grand Designs or Homes in the Sun.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?  Well, there are so many wonderful places, but at the moment it would either be Boston, New England or Vancouver Island, British Columbia, but ask me again next year.

What snacks do you keep in your desk drawer?  None; I rarely eat between meals. (How boring is that?) If I was tempted, I'd only have to look in Brenda's draw.

What is your second love, next to property of course?  My husband, he's shown me what happiness is, and that it isn't house-shaped.

What do you love most about Ebbw Vale? I love the close community feel and the friendliness of everyone!

What got you into property? I started as a Saturday girl in the Brynmawr branch when I was studying for my A Levels. I then went on to university and continued working as a Saturday girl, I would then often cover staff holidays through term times. That was when I really discovered my love and passion for the job. I then finished university and joined the Ebbw Vale branch, as a full-time position had just become available.

We always ensure that we go above and beyond for all our clients, in every aspect of our service. We offer a complete in-house package, from sales to lettings, conveyancing and financial services. Over the years Bidmead Cook have also invested heavily in our technology and social media, which I feel is a fantastic bonus and works to everyone’s advantage. We aim to deliver the best service in the most professional and friendly way.

What’s your favourite property TV programme? I have to say, I have a few! However, Grand Designs would probably come out on top, as I love to see how imaginative and creative people can be when planning and designing their dream home.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Having just been to Las Vegas, I think that would be a fancy place to call home… as long as Jeanne keeps sending my salary!

What snacks do you keep in your desk drawer? I don’t usually keep snacks in my drawer, but when I do they are usually quite naughty. Unfortunately, I have a very sweet tooth!

What is your second love, next to property of course?  My second love is my beautiful baby Alfie; he is a golden Cockapoo and was bought as a gift for me from my parents nearly two years ago.

I also have a very close family and friends who I love very much, and not forgetting my lovely boyfriend, Owain.
