Up close and personal...

Meet our Lydney team

We’re off back towards the Forest of Dean to meet our next team in this month’s Up Close and Personal, as we are in the small town of Lydney. What is Sharon’s favourite property TV programme, and why? Who loves where they live, and whose snack draw is full of fruit?

Name: Sharon Vickers

Occupation: Branch Manager

Specialist Subject: Property in Lydney

What do you love most about Lydney? Lydney is a small but interesting town; it lies parallel to the River Severn on the A48, which connects Gloucester to Chepstow and is of course the gateway to the beautiful Forest of Dean. The town has many attractions, like Bathurst Park, Lydney Park Gardens, Bathurst outdoor swimming pool, Dean Forest Railway and Lydney Docks.

What got you into property? I first started as a cashier/negotiator for Halifax property services in 1989 and was given the best training in all aspects of the job. I became a branch manager in 1992, and the rest is history. I love my job and the way that I describe it is, it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. Every day is different, as is every property. It has its ups and downs, but it can also be very rewarding, especially when you achieve the client’s ultimate goal.

What is the advantage of using Bidmead Cook? The advantage of using Bidmead Cook is of course the experienced and local staff, the network that we offer, and I feel we give the best customer service.

What’s your favourite property TV programme? George Clarke’s programmes are the best; not only is he good looking but he has vision, and great passion for what he does.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I have travelled to a lot of places here and abroad, but there is nowhere like home. I live in a little hamlet called Oldcroft, where I have the woods and wildlife on my doorstep, there’s no better place to be!

What snacks do you keep in your desk drawer? I love all sweet things. I don’t actually keep any snacks in my drawer, but there is a variety of sweets in a charity box directly behind my desk - I think I am the only one in the office that fills the money box up.

What is your second love? Next to property, of course. My first love is my husband, of course, and my two border collies and black cat. I love my job, of course, but it would come second.

Name: Nicki Fennell

Occupation: Sales Negotiator

Specialist Subject: Property in Lydney

What do you love most about Lydney? Lydney is where I was born and grew up. I love the park, the lake, and as we have a train station it’s great for access to other places if you don’t want to drive.

What got you into property? I used to be a cashier for Halifax, which was based in our office, and used to see all the properties. I thought how interesting it looked, so I took on a shared cashier/negotiator role and eventually became a full time negotiator. I still love it, especially doing viewings, as it gives me lots of ideas for my own property.

What is the advantage of using Bidmead Cook? The advantage of Bidmead Cook, well that speaks for itself, why would you want to go anywhere else? We have experienced, dedicated, lovely local staff, a great database of applicants, fantastic network coverage, and we offer brilliant customer service.

What’s your favourite property TV programme? I love watching Grand Designs with Kevin McCloud; seeing homes appear out of thing like water towers and disused churches amazes me. I also like a bit of Phil and Kirsty on Location, Location, Location.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I have been to many countries on holiday, but nowhere that I would like to live other than here. I live in a village on the outskirts of Lydney, close to the woods and close to friends and family, with a local pub and a great fish and chip shop.

What snacks do you keep in your desk drawer? I always have sweet and salty popcorn in my drawer as a healthy snack, but quite often other members of staff bring in cake (aghh!) and we did have our fair share of ice cream in the hot weather. Plus, we always have bacon rolls on FAT FRIDAY!

What is your second love? Next to property, of course. I love my job as an estate agent, but my husband and border-terrier cross doggy are the real loves of my life.

What do you love most about Lydney? In Lydney we’re very lucky, as we have a beautiful park, easy access to the forest, and a train station.  Also you can access Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cardiff, by train or road.

What got you into property? I have always taken an interest in property programmes, e.g. Location, Location, Location, and had the chance to join Bidmead Cook just over 7 years ago.  I really love my job, meeting people, and helping them to find their new home.

What is the advantage of using Bidmead Cook? The advantage of using Bidmead Cook is that all the services associated with buying and selling, e.g. conveyancers and mortgage advisors, can be accessed under one roof.

What’s your favourite property TV programme? My favourite programme is Homes Under the Hammer.

What snacks do you keep in your desk drawer? The snacks I keep in my desk drawer are apples, bananas and pears.

What is your second love? Next to property, of course. Unfortunately, I must say that my family and grandson come first, then property!!
